The stork female Katerina sets out for south! (Monday 19th August 2002)
We let activated satellite transmitters of Siberian storks. Katerina was localized by satellite system Argos, surprisingly a thousand kilometers south from her nesting place - in northwest China! She stopped in swamps near Ebinur lake in Djungar.
There's no reason to worry that Katerina is about to winterize in Djungar. But were is she going to fly? We supposed she would aim either to southeast or southwest to avoid the mountains, but, so far, she's flying directly south. Watching her is going to be nearly thrilling.
