Sad was the end of the year (Thursday 2nd January 2003)

After Katerina succeeded to move from an inhospitable Tarim basin over the huge edge of Karakoram, we took a breath. It was premature. Katerina's destiny ended on the spot where she had stopped after a long flight - one of the side valleys by Indus river near Nanga Parbat.

Katerina died or was killed shortly after her flight over Karakoram in a dense inhabitated area near Indus river, inbetween Bunar and Dasar villages. As results from satellite locations and sensor data of movement and temperature, her transmitter was then carried nearer to the river and since then it's to be found northeastward from Dasar village. On a map, Dasar is a point while the inhabitation occurs probably along the road in the Indus valley. The transmitter may be right in one of the village building. Even the fact that the transmitter temperature reaches 26 to 29 Celsius with the highest peaks in the evening. So, the transmitter is probably in some heated object but not in a substantial construction made of bricks which would limit the signal!

What could have happened? We think over tens of possibilities and a number of various scenarios. The most true is probably this one: Katerina was killed by a villager or a hunter. If she died due to exhaustion (or other reasons without a human's part-taking), her transmitter wouldn't have been found so quickly and brought elsewhere. As I already wrote, we think of other possibilities as well and we'll try to find out what exactly happened.
