Chingiz near the Yellow river (Tuesday October 5, 2004)

5. říjen 2004

Chingiz on Friday 1st October changed his course again and set out straight to south. He flew a few tens of kilometers upstream the Yellow river and in the next four days stopped in the river-basin of this Asian large stream. After the quick advance southward through those inhospitable areas, the river valley is probably food-friendly and Chingiz stop will may be longer.

Yellow river (Chuang-che, sometimes transcribed as Huang-ho) is the second biggest river of China, 5.464 km long and the river basin counts the area of 752.000 square kilometers. It springs in the Qinghai province at the foot of the Bayan Har mountains. Yellow river got its name thanks to the areas with slightly drift sand - "yelow soil" - through which it's running in the northern China, and carries this sand away to the east. Yellow river's nickname is sometimes also 'the most muddy river in the world'. Its valley is one of the cradles of the ancient Chinese civilization. Huge pasturelands and rich supplies of various minerals and ores are to be found around the river, along with many people living there. By means of satellites, we will find out how long Chingiz is going to spend in the surroundings of this fabulous river.
