Almost nothing new (Wednesday 13th November 2002)

Petr is in charge of the "almost" in the title. He made another trip to Afghanistan in the last few days, namely eastward and flyimg close along to the boundary. Finally, he got back to Turkmenistan again.

It seems that all the storks are all right and it becomes more and more strange why they do not fly to the winter grounds. Will they stay where they are now? The maps in the gallery show that in Turkmenistan the conditions would be quite good. The temperatures are quite high in January where Petr and Roman stay, the snow lies very shortly and there is also enough of food and water there as well. Katerina would have it much worse in northwest China...

On the other hand, we haven't heard of the storks' winterizing in Turkmenistan (not to even mention a collective winterizing as the presence of two of all three storks there points at). All the storks we'd marked in the Czech republic found their winter grounds in places of much more favourable climate conditions (all but David winterized in tropics, and even David had much warmer grounds in the southern Spain than the eastern Turkmenistan offers).
