Afghanistan in sight (Friday, 17 October 2003)

The headline applies to Iristu, of course. He flew less than 200 km south-southeast and stopped in a swampy area with many lakes in eastern Turkmenistan. It is approximately the same area where male stork Petr stayed for some time last year before attempting to cross Afghanistan. I am pretty sure that sooner or later, Iristu will try to cross Hindukush, too. The only question is when... Unfortunately, the flight over Afghanistan will undoubtedly be very dangerous for him...
