23. prosinec 2002

A brief summary from the start: After a long stay in the western China flew over Karakoram to the Indic subcontinent. Even after one week I've got to repeat it: it's fascinating! We are waiting for her next "move" - whether to India or Pakistan. Anyway it's probable that she'll stay for some time where she is now - in the northern Pakistan near Nanga Parbat. - Roman most probably remains in the eastern Turkmenistan; his satellite transmitter stop working last week. - Petr unfortunately died in Afghanistan a few weeks ago. (The summary of all that happened till Katerina flew over Karakoram is to be found here.)

Ornithologist Mr Ma Ming sent many photos from China - see the gallery. He has been keen on watching the black storks in Xinjiang area for many years. The storks both nest there and spend the winter as well. More information is in the article News from China. .

Mary Christmas and Happy New Year 2003 to all our readers and fans of "backpacked" storks!
