Pakistani conservationists reacted to the news of Katerina's death very quickly and with enthusiasm, which was a nice surprise for us.

The director of Pakistan's branch of WWF, Ali Habib, has sent us this e-mail today: "Could you send us an accurate reading of the GPS location of the transmitter, then I could request a WWF person from our Gilgit office to go to the location and possibly talk to any villagers. This way we could think of sensitizing people not to harm the Stork as there may be more in the area, and could be useful to prepare people for the next year. This way we will at least feel that Katerina's death in some way should mark the beginning of an improved programme for conservation of Black Stork in Pakistan."

At the moment, it seems that every cloud has a silver lining. If Katerina's death could contribute to greater safety of migrating storks, it would be really great.
