New Storks Roam India

3. duben 2008

Indian storks have not started migrating yet. The young one is hanging around Akola, where a shortage of food probably forces him to make short trips to different parts of the area.

The adult bird moved to the North after a trip to the South. Instead of proceeding along a migration route, it drifted south-east, close to the shore of the Indian Ocean. It is now some 65 km north of Mumbai. These unexpected transfers along an arch around 1250 km long in total, probably testify to drying out of water sources and a growing shortage of food.

Yesterday, Marko was localised on an important stop on the migration route, some 800 km north of the wintering grounds, near Huang He river.
